Abstract

|
Optic neuropathy is usually considered when visual loss is associated with abnormal optic disc or when examination of fundus is normal but visual acuity, color, visual field are accompanied by an afferent papillary defect. Understandings of optic nerve anatomy and physiology is important when approaching patients with optic neuropathy. The classification of optic neuropathy according to various etiology included ischemic, inflammatory, compressive, infectious, hereditary, toxic and nutritional optic neuropathies. Typical clinical features and course of optic neuropathy of various etiology are reviewed.
